Three Dogs Recovering After A Nasty Encounter With A Porcupine

In Canada, three dogs are recovering after a nasty encounter with a porcupine.

Dennis Mazur’s dogs  were playing on a farm in Craven, Saskatchewan, when they got into a nasty brawl with a porcupine.

Mahalo, a Pit Bull, had to be taken to a vet after the porcupine’s quills pierced her heart and lungs.

Nestah, another Pit Bull, was also hurt in the attack. He had dozens of quills on his face but no serious internal injuries.

Soljah is the luckiest of the three – sustaining only minor wounds under her mouth.

The three dogs’ injuries left Dennis Mazur, a social worker, with a veterinary bill of at least $8,000.

Since Dennis cannot afford Mahalo’s rising veterinary bills, one of his friends set up a

GoFundMe page to raise enough money to save his dog.

“These dogs are the love of my dear friend Dennis’ life,” Mike Gerrand said. “The veterinarian said if [Mahalo] hadn’t been a Pit Bull with all that muscle she wouldn’t have survived.”

The campaign has exceeded its $10,000 goal but help and support from well-wishes continue to pour in.

Campaign supporter Loralie Laderoute commented:

“Such a wonderful response to this campaign ♥As for pulling it because you reached your goal, that would be a shame 🙁 ….as I read the story the vet bills were $8000 and climbing. The goal of $10,000 was reached but the bills could very well be more! I understand that this fellow isn’t back to work yet because he is staying home with his dogs til they can be left alone. People have the choice to donate if they want to or not. It shows what the goal is and how much has been raised. Don’t let one negative response shut this campaign down. Vet bills could very well surpass $15,000. You just don’t know. Any extra raised after the dogs are fully healed could always be donated to an animal shelter or charity that works with and for animals. This just warms my heart ♥”
