Meet Harley! This adorable Pit Bull puppy was born with no eyes.
Harley, his littermates and his mom were rescued by the New York Police from an abusive caretaker. The police brought the poor doggie family to the ASPCA. Since Harley has special needs, the ASPCA sought the help of S.N.A.R.R. Animal Rescue Northeast to help care for the special Pit Bull pup.
At S.N.A.R.R., Harley quickly warmed up to his carers. The staff soon noticed how much the puppy loves snuggling. He likes receiving hugs and snuggles from everyone!
Harley now has a temporary home at the rescue center. They report that the puppy is incredibly sweet and great with children. This pup may be blind, but that doesn’t stop him exploring his surroundings! When one sense is gone, the others are heightened, and little Harley follows his nose wherever it takes him.
His story has touched the hearts of people. A number of blind dog owners have shared how amazing it is to adopt and care for dogs like Harley.
“Blind dogs make THE BEST snugglers. We’ve got a blind pittie who lost his sight as a puppy undoubtedly from neglect,” Max Webster shared. “He’s the happiest little snuggler there is.”
“My Stevie has no eyes and he gets around great. We go on walks every night and he is very confident without his eyes. Harley will be an awesome addition to anyone’s family,” Lisa Avedon commented.
Another woman has also shared her experience after her dog lost her eyesight.
“I used to have a dog who had her eyes removed when she was an adult. She got around the yard and house just fine — she could even run in the house and know when to stop or turn to avoid furniture or walls. When she’d been blind for a couple of years, we moved to a new house, and I swear by the end of the day, she knew where everything was! Dogs are just so adaptable. Since this sweet baby doesn’t know any different, I doubt he’ll need much help (if any) figuring out how to get around,” Natalie Worlow wrote.
Blessings keep coming Harley’s way. A woman named Silvie Bordeaux offered to donate a Muffin’s Halo for the pup.
For now, Harley’s caretakers are making sure he’s getting the specialized care he needs.
“Harley will be seeing the eye specialist to make sure that we don’t need to do anything regarding his empty sockets. We want to make sure he is as comfortable as possible,” they posted on Facebook.
Once that’s all clear, the sweet and loving pup will be up for adoption.
