Dogs are the best companions we could ever imagine. Not only do they bring joy into our lives, they can also be fiercely protective of their family — and that’s how Todd, a Golden Retriever, does. This Golden Retriever got bitten by a snake while protecting his owner during their hike in Anthem, Arizona.
On the morning of June 29, Paula Godwin, Todd, and Paula’s other Golden Retriever were on a hiking trail. During the hike, Paula almost stepped on a rattlesnake lurking on the trail. The rattlesnake was about to strike when hero dog Todd jumped in front of Paula to protect her.
Unfortunately, the 6-month-old Golden Retriever got bitten by the rattlesnake. He suffered a serious bite on his snout. Paula then immediately brought her hero pup to the local animal hospital, where he received an anti-venom and supportive treatments.
In a Facebook post, Paula wrote, “It was a beautiful morning but as we were walking down the hill I literally almost stepped on a mf rattlesnake. But my hero of a puppy Todd saved me. He jumped right in front of my leg were I surely would have got bit. This is what a hero looks like. Please say a little prayer for my sweet hero.”
The good news is Todd is now out of danger and is recovering. Thousands of people around the world have sent their well wishes for the furry hero. With the amount of love and attention Todd has been receiving from the internet, a group called “Friends of Todd” was formed. They set up a GoFundMe page not to pay for Todd’s bills, but to help other owners around the valley who may need help with paying bills for unexpected situations like this. The hero Golden Retriever and his owner have also been invited as guests in a television show.
Todd is truely a heckin’ good boy!
