The Standard Schnauzer was originally developed in Germany and was mainly used to exterminate vermin but he was also a skilled guard dog and basically an all-purpose dog. The average height of a Standard Schnauzer is 1 foot, 5 inches to 1 foot, 8 inches weighing about 30 to 50 pounds. They have a lifespan of 13 to 16 years.

Overview:

Originally developed to exterminate vermin the Standard Schnauzer makes an excellent family companion nowadays. He is very intelligent and devoted to his master and his family and will always do all his best to entertain and please them. This breed is well known for its devotion even though he has a big personality and sometimes can be a bit stubborn. The Standard Schnauzer loves all the energy demanding activities like fly-ball, Frisbee, running, swimming and many others. If he is left alone more than a few hours a day he can become bored and might become very loud and destructive. The Standard Schnauzer is a great watchdog because he is very reserved with strangers and will always let you know when a stranger is approaching your property. He is known to behave well when children are around but very small children should always be well supervised when they encounter any type of dog breed because they might have the tendency to tease and no dog will accept that. Obedience training and early socialization are very important in this case and can make a big difference if you want an obedient dog.

Standard Schnauzer Training:

Standard Schnauzer is a very intelligent dog breed. They can learn new commands very quickly which makes them quite easy to train. Usually they enjoy any type of activity so training will not be a problem for them. In fact it can be something that they will really enjoy.

Standard Schnauzer Shedding:

Shedding should not concern you at all if you plan to buy this type of dog breed. In fact you will never find a hair in your house because the Standard Schnauzer is not a type of dog breed that sheds hair.

Standard Schnauzer Grooming:

The Standard Schnauzer, like many other dog breeds, needs daily exercise. Don’t worry, those needs can be met quite easy with simple walks or playing some fun games. His coat needs to be shaped two or three months and proper brushing should be done every now and then.

The Schnauzer has originated in Germany and was a skilled vermin exterminator. He also was and still is an excellent guard dog specialized in guarding homes, shops, stables and livestock but nowadays he is mostly specialized in being a loving family companion. Some of the dog breeds used to develop the Schnauzer were the Wolfspitz, the German Poodle, the Miniature Schnauzer and the Giant Schnauzer.
