Samoyed Samoyed

The Samoyed was originally developed in Siberia as a hunting dog and also as a herding dog. Even though he is a fearless guard dog he makes an excellent family companion. The average height of a Samoyed is 1 foot, 7 inches to 2 feet weighing about 50 to 60 pounds. They have a lifespan of 12 to 14 years.

Originally bred to be a herding dog and a hunting dog the Samoyed is a very intelligent dog breed that enjoys all the activities that you can think of. He is a fearless guard dog but can be very affectionate with his master and his family. The Samoyed loves all the energy demanding activities like fly-ball, Frisbee, running, swimming and many other dog games. If he is left alone more than a few hours a day he can become bored and might become very loud and destructive. The Samoyed is a great watchdog because he is very reserved with strangers and will always let you know when a stranger is approaching your property. He is known to behave well when children are around but very small children should always be well supervised when they encounter any type of dog breed because they might have the tendency to tease and no dog will accept that. Obedience training and early socialization are very important in this case and can make a big difference if you want to have an obedient dog that will always follow all your instructions.

Samoyed Training:

Samoyed is a very intelligent dog breed. They can learn new commands very quickly which makes them quite easy to train. Usually they enjoy any type of activity so training will not be a problem for them. In fact it can be something that they will really enjoy.

Samoyed Shedding:

To be honest, the Samoyed is shedding a lot of hair. You cannot do anything to stop this but if you want to prevent having hair all over your home you should do proper brushing every day. Keep in mind that with a proper brushing you will rarely find hair on your couch, carpets and other places in your home.

Samoyed Grooming:

The Samoyed, like many other dog breeds, need daily exercise. Don’t worry, those needs can be met quite easy with simple walks or playing some fun games. His coat needs to be shaped two or three months and proper brushing should be done every now and then.

Samoyed History:

The Samoyed was originally developed in Siberia as a hunting dog as well as a herding dog. The first time when dogs from this breed started to journey out of Siberia was when they were used to pull sledges on polar expeditions. These dogs are used to endure terrible weather conditions and very low temperatures.
