The English Springer Spaniel was originally developed to be a gundog however nowadays he is also a popular companion dog. The average height of a English Springer Spaniel is 1 foot, 6 inches to 1 foot, 10 inches weighing about 45 to 55 pounds. They have a lifespan of 9 to 15 years.


Originally bred in England, the English Springer Spaniel is a very popular breed all around the world. He is very affectionate and fun-loving and will always do his best to please his owner and his family. He is also very loyal and trustworthy but require a lot of your attention. The English Springer Spaniel loves all the energy demanding activities like fly-ball, Frisbee, running, swimming and many others. If he is left alone more than a few hours a day he can become bored and might become very loud and destructive. The English Springer Spaniel is a great watchdog because he is very reserved with strangers and will always let you know when a stranger is approaching your property. He is known to behave well when children are around but very small children should always be well supervised when they encounter any type of dog breed because they might have the tendency to tease and no dog will accept that. Obedience training and early socialization are very important in this case and can make a big difference. Even though Spaniel type dogs have been originally bred in Spain, the English Springer Spaniel was developed in England. This dog breed was obtained in the 16th century and was used to flush small animals and drive them into the open so they could be captured by coursing hounds and hunters.
