The long ears of the dog are this breed’s most distinguishing feature. The breed is moderately lazy and gets along better with older, considerate children. This breed has a tendency to be stubborn, but is never timid. Basset Hounds are naturally enjoyable, loving and mild dogs who are generally non-aggressive.

Affectionate, lazy, devoted, quiet and peaceful, the breed does exceptionally well with a family. This breed loves children and usually gets along well with other animals. The Basset has the ability to learn tricks, but patience is required to overcome their stubborn tendencies.

This dog breed sheds constantly. Combing and brushing the Basset with a firm bristle brush will keep shedding to a minimum. The toenails should be trimmed regularly as this breed is lazy tends to neglect them. The ears also require regular cleaning.
